In a survey conducted among 40,000 non-native English speakers in 46 different countries, the word "Mother" was voted as the most beautiful word in English. "Eternity", "Passion", and "Tranquility" were some of the other words in the top ten.

Check out the entire list here.

Obviously, the list does not include many other beautiful words...

The word "Syzygy" tops my list of beautiful words.

The word refers to either of the two points in the orbit of a celestial body where it is in opposition to the sun and the earth.
The moon is at syzygy when full.

Which word will get your vote? :D

Serendipity. Did you know it's also the name of the GREedge blog?
Serendipity: accidentally stumbling upon a good thing/luck/fortune
It was serendipitous to find my favorite author's books on the bargain counter.

Hi all,
I'd vote for the word love, because it is this that makes everything special. For example, the best word mother is so important because of the characteristic of love/affection which makes child attracted to her.

Lastly about serendipity (just for comparison)..... accidentally stumbling upon a good thing. Here good is defined as the things which you would love to get.

This whole world is filled with so called "love" (of course, true love is very little but most of them is lust in the name of love).

Thanks for the poll :)

I would also vote for the word MOTHER. The love, affection she shows cannot be expressed in words.

I completely agree with Chaitanya. I would also like to vote for the word 'LOVE'.
True Love shown by anyone is always been a wonderful feeling. No matters who they are to us. May be our Mom, Dad, Brother, Friend and of course our soul mate. As Chaitanya said, Mother is known for LOVE. I personally feel that the characteristic of LOVE is only making the word MOTHER special. I would say it is only reason which keeps us alive when our times are bad. LOVE always remain as a very special word for me.

I personally feel that the word LOVE would have had its creation from the concept of MOTHER.

"Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder" guys

The concept 'word' is just a signifier. We already have a sign in this world which can be signified through the word. The word 'Mother' will be different for each of us but the emotion and feel it invokes can be the same. So is the case with 'Love' or any other word. It all depends on the value which you give to a particular emotion and the word which evokes that emotion will be the most beautiful to you.

My favorite is Honorificabilitudinitatibus for its beautiful arrangement of sounds !
